Lecture Series 2024 – University Education and the Research Culture

The first lecture of the Lecture Series organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, in accordance with the Annual Action Plan 2024, was successfully held on 08 October 2024 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies of the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka.

The lecture, titled “University Education and the Research Culture,” was delivered by Prof. Manjula Ranagalage.

The session explored the importance of integrating research into university curricula and emphasized the role of higher education institutions in cultivating a strong research culture. Key themes discussed included fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and encouraging the publication of high-quality research papers.

Prof. Ranagalage highlighted several core objectives essential for strengthening research engagement within the University community:

  • Improving the quality of teaching through research-informed practices.

  • Promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across academic disciplines.

  • Providing professional development opportunities for both students and faculty members.

  • Encouraging innovation, academic inquiry, and scholarly publication.

The lecture served as an inspiring platform for reflection and dialogue, aiming to nurture a vibrant and sustainable research culture within the University.
