A special workshop titled “AI Tools and Techniques for Smart Academic Writing” was successfully held on 19 March 2025 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies of the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka.
The programme was organized by the Staff Development Center (SDC) with the aim of fostering continuous professional growth among academic staff members and executive officers, particularly in adapting to emerging technological advancements in higher education.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. K. A. S. H. Kulathilake, Head of the Department of Computing, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.
Objectives of the Workshop
To introduce the latest AI tools, including ChatGPT, and their applications in higher education.
To equip faculty members with practical skills to integrate AI technologies into teaching methodologies and research processes.
To enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of academic practices through AI-driven solutions.
To provide knowledge and hands-on practice in crafting effective prompt messages for AI tools.
To foster discussions on the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence within an academic context.
The interactive sessions allowed participants to explore real-time demonstrations, practical applications, and guided exercises on prompt engineering and AI-assisted academic writing. The programme emphasized balancing technological innovation with academic integrity and ethical responsibility.
This initiative reflects the University’s commitment to embracing digital transformation while maintaining high standards of scholarly excellence.
