Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Mahamakut Buddhist University, Isan Campus, Thailand, to Strengthen International Buddhist Education

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and Mahamakut Buddhist University, Isan Campus, Thailand, Establish Academic Cooperation to Promote Global Buddhist Networks, Social Development, and World Peace

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka has formally entered into an international academic partnership with Mahamakut Buddhist University, Isan Campus (MBU–ISC), Thailand, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening global Buddhist academic networks aimed at promoting social development and world peace.

The MoU was signed during an official academic visit to Mahamakut Buddhist University, Isan Campus, with the objective of fostering long-term cooperation in Buddhist education, research, and scholarly exchange. Through this partnership, both institutions reaffirm their shared commitment to the propagation of Buddhist values and the advancement of higher education in a global context.

The delegation from Mahamakut Buddhist University, Isan Campus, was led by Phra Suthee Vachiradhama, Asst. Prof. Dr., Vice-Rector of the Isan Campus, who has played a leading role in promoting international cooperation and academic development. He was accompanied by Phrakhru Vinaidhorn Chaowapit Sutheero, Abbot of Wat Pa Kanjanaphisek, a respected figure in Buddhist education and religious leadership, and Phra Phutthi Vachiramedhi, Asst. Prof. Dr., Director of the Academic Service Center and Head of the MoU project.

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka was represented by Ven. Senior Prof. Kanattegoda Saddharatana Anunayaka Thero, Ven. Weliwita Sratha Thera, Dr. Ven. Divulapelesse Wimalananda Thero, and Mr. Gunathilake Liyanage Pradeep Kumara, reflecting the University’s strong academic and administrative leadership in this international engagement.

The primary objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is to establish a sustainable academic partnership between the two universities through:
• Exchange of Buddhist Knowledge: Promoting mutual understanding and scholarly engagement in Buddhist studies and related disciplines.
• Student and Faculty Exchange: Providing opportunities for students, monks, novices, and academic staff to engage in cross-cultural learning and teaching experiences.
• Joint Research and Development: Collaborating on interdisciplinary research in Buddhism, Philosophy, Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences for the benefit of global society.
• Academic Collaboration and Outreach: Jointly organizing international conferences, seminars, workshops, special lectures, and exhibitions to disseminate research findings and foster academic dialogue.

This MoU reflects Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka’s ongoing commitment to internationalization, academic excellence, and the promotion of Buddhist wisdom as a foundation for social harmony and world peace. The University looks forward to the successful implementation of this partnership and the meaningful contributions it will make to global Buddhist scholarship and intercultural understanding.
