The Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies, Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka, successfully conducted a five-day Stone Tools Workshop from 10–14 August 2026 in collaboration with the German Archaeological Institute, Commission for Archaeology of Non-European Cultures.

The project was led by Dr. Ariana de Saxce, with Dr. Ven. Pahiaynagala Sumangala serving as the Workshop Coordinator. The programme was held at Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and the Nakolagane Archaeological Site, Ambanpola, providing participants with valuable academic and practical experience in archaeological lithic studies.

The workshop was attended by academic staff, researchers (from German, India and Tanxania), university students (Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and University of Jaffna), research officers from the Central Cultural Fund and Department of Archaeology, and other participants interested in archaeology. The programme focused on the technological, functional, and cultural aspects of stone tools and provided opportunities for practical training, academic discussion, and knowledge exchange. The workshop further strengthened international academic collaboration and archaeological training at the University.
