Historic Academic Milestone: Ven. Dr. Galwewe Wimalakhanthi Thero Appointed as Professor in Archaeology

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka has marked a historic milestone in Sri Lankan higher education with the promotion of Ven. Dr. Galwewe Wimalakhanthi Thero to the post of Professor in Archaeology in the Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies.
This appointment is of exceptional national significance, as Ven. Dr. Galwewe Wimalakhanthi Thero becomes the only Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka to hold the position of Professor in Archaeology, a discipline closely connected to the study of ancient civilizations, cultural heritage, and Buddhist history.
Currently serving as Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies, Ven. Dr. Wimalakhanthi Thero has made distinguished contributions to teaching, research, and academic supervision. His scholarly work has played a vital role in advancing archaeological and cultural studies within a Buddhist academic framework.
