The 08th International Buddhist Conference – 2024 (BUSL-IBC-2024)

The 08th International Buddhist Conference – 2024 (BUSL-IBC-2024) was successfully held on 21 November 2024 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies of the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka.

The conference was organized under the theme “Buddhism for Global Well-being and Qualitative Transformation”, with the objective of promoting advanced study and scholarly research in Buddhism within contemporary global contexts.

Senior Lecturer Ven. Wewala Dhammaloka served as the Chairman of the Conference, guiding the academic proceedings of the event.

The Guest of Honour was Most Venerable Makulewe Wimala Maha Nayaka Thero of the Sri Lanka Rāmañña Maha Nikāya, and the distinguished keynote address was delivered by Emeritus Professor Asanga Thilakarathna.

Objectives of the Conference

  • To provide a platform for scholars, practitioners, and students to discuss and share insights on Buddhist teachings and their applications in the modern world.

  • To explore the role of Buddhism in fostering peace, harmony, and sustainable development.

  • To promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

  • To enhance the global visibility and impact of Buddhist philosophy and practice.

The conference created an intellectually stimulating environment for academic exchange and spiritual reflection, strengthening the University’s position as a center for Buddhist scholarship and international dialogue.
