Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka Celebrates a Milestone in Academic Excellence

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka proudly announces a landmark achievement in its academic history: the publication of groundbreaking research by the Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies, in the prestigious Q1-indexed journal Quaternary Science Reviews.

This marks the first time that research conducted by the University has been published in a top-tier, internationally recognized journal of this standing, representing a significant advancement in the University’s global research profile.

The study, led by Rev. Pahiyangala Sumangala in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of national and international scholars, presents new and compelling insights into Terminal Pleistocene to Mid-Holocene rainforest foragers in Sri Lanka. Based on archaeological excavations at the Kebella-lena rock shelter, the research offers critical evidence regarding the adaptability, subsistence strategies, and technological innovation of early human populations inhabiting tropical rainforest environments.

By situating Sri Lanka within broader global prehistoric discourse, this study significantly enhances the island’s importance in understanding human evolution, environmental adaptation, and tropical archaeology.

The University extends its sincere appreciation to the entire research team and to its international collaborators at the Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University, China, whose partnership and scholarly dedication contributed to this remarkable accomplishment.
