In line with the Annual Action Plan for 2025, the Department of Applied Buddhist Studies of the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka successfully organized a training workshop on “Indigenous Medicine Production” for university students on 26 November 2025.
The workshop was conducted by Senior Lecturer Ven. Kahatagasdigiliye Dhammarathana Thero, who provided comprehensive instruction on the principles, preparation methods, and practical applications of traditional indigenous medicine. The session highlighted the historical foundations of Sri Lanka’s indigenous medical practices and their relevance in contemporary health and wellness contexts.
Students were introduced to the identification of medicinal plants, the preparation of herbal remedies, and the importance of maintaining authenticity and ethical standards in traditional healing practices. The workshop combined theoretical discussions with practical demonstrations, enabling participants to gain valuable hands-on experience.
This programme aimed to promote awareness of Sri Lanka’s rich medicinal heritage while encouraging students to appreciate and preserve indigenous knowledge systems. The initiative further strengthened the university’s commitment to integrating traditional wisdom with academic learning.
