As part of the Action Plan 2025, aligned with the University Strategic Plan’s Objective 5: Encouraging Community Participation and Service Expansion, the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka has launched a Book Donation Campaign to support underserved Pirivena and school libraries in the region.
This meaningful initiative is led by Dr. S. K. Illangarathne, Librarian of the University, reflecting his vision of strengthening community engagement and expanding access to educational resources.
The campaign involves collecting donated books through designated “Book Tills” (පොත් කැට) placed within the university premises. The collected books will be distributed to underserved Pirivena and school libraries, helping to bridge resource gaps and promote equitable access to knowledge.

The campaign directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, particularly Targets 4.1 and 4.5, which emphasize equitable access to quality education and the reduction of disparities in learning opportunities.
The official launch of the campaign took place on 19 December 2024 at the University Library. The event was led by Senior Professor Ven. Kanattegoda Saddharatana Anunayaka Thera, Vice-Chancellor of the University, together with Ven. Demunnawe Upali and Ven. Polonnaruwe Kashyapa. Mr. Y. K. Tissa Bandara, Senior Assistant Librarian, symbolically marked the occasion by donating books.
This initiative not only strengthens educational opportunities for underserved communities but also reinforces the University’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development.
The University warmly invites students, staff, and well-wishers to contribute books to the Book Tills and join hands in supporting quality education for all.
Together, let us create a brighter future for students and libraries in need.
