Three specialized training workshops were successfully conducted for the fourth-year students of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Buddhist Psychology and Counselling at the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka. The programme was organized by the Department of Applied Buddhist Studies and held on 18 and 19 November 2025 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies.
The workshops were conducted by Mrs. Thushari Chandrasekara, Senior Psychological Consultant at the District Secretariat, Kurunegala. The sessions were designed to enhance students’ professional competencies by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the field of psychology and counselling.
Throughout the programme, participants were guided on contemporary counselling techniques, ethical considerations in psychological practice, communication skills, and case-based problem-solving approaches. The interactive nature of the sessions encouraged active participation, group discussions, and experiential learning.
These workshops provided valuable exposure to real-world counselling practices and strengthened the students’ readiness for professional engagement in the fields of psychological services and community mental health. The initiative further demonstrates the university’s commitment to delivering academically rigorous and professionally relevant education.
