Workshop on Prehistoric Stone Tools

A workshop on Prehistoric Stone Tools was successfully held on 16 and 17 December 2024 at the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka. The programme was organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies for students specializing in Archaeology.

The workshop featured Dr. Nimal Perera as the subject expert, who delivered comprehensive sessions on the study, identification, and analytical approaches related to prehistoric stone tools. Drawing on his expertise in prehistoric archaeology, he provided in-depth insights into the technological development and cultural significance of early lithic industries.

Students gained valuable hands-on experience in identifying, classifying, and examining stone tool typologies. Practical sessions focused on understanding manufacturing techniques, usage patterns, and the broader anthropological context of stone tool traditions in early human societies.

Through expert discussions and applied learning activities, participants significantly enhanced their research skills in prehistoric archaeology. The workshop strengthened their academic understanding of material culture and its role in interpreting early human behavior and technological evolution.
