The 9th General Convocation and the 4th General Convocation (External) of the Bhikkhu University of Sri Lanka were held with great distinction at the newly constructed Multi-Purpose Building on 08 March 2026.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University, Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithree Moorthi Thero, Honorary Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya, together with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor Kanattegoda Saddharatana Anunayaka, in the presence of the Registrar, Bursar, Librarian and other university officials, academic and non-academic staff, invited guests, parents, and well-wishers.
At the convocation, a total of 181 internal graduands and 243 external graduands were conferred degrees. A particularly noteworthy highlight of the convocation was the conferment of one Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, three Master of Arts Degrees, and three Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degrees.
Addressing the graduands, Senior Professor Medagampitiye Wijithadhamma Thero, through his Guest Lecture, congratulated them on their academic achievements and reminded them of their responsibility to serve as agents of hope during challenging and uncertain times.
At the convocation, Honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degrees were awarded to Most Venerable Makulewe Wimala Thero, Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya, and Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thero, Anunayaka of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya with the approval of the Council.
