The 9th International Buddhist Conference (IBC BUSL–2026) was successfully held on 20th August 2026 at the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka under the theme “Unity in Diversity: Buddhist Philosophy in Pre-Oriental Humanity” in collaboration with Fudan University of China.
The Chief Guest was the Most Venerable Niyangoda Vijithasiri Nayaka Thero, Anunayaka of the Malwatta Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya. The Vice-Chancellor, Most Venerable Senior Professor Kanattegoda Saddharatana Anunayaka Thero, also graced the occasion.
Senior Lecturer Ven. Welipitiye Pagngnarathana Thero served as the Chairman of the Conference, while Senior Lecturer Ven. Dr. Pahiyangala Sumangala Thero served as its Secretary. The distinguished keynote speakers were Senior Lecturer Ven. Dr. Divulapellesse Wimalananda Thero of BUSL and Professor Fu Zinyi of Fudan University, China.
Members of the academic staff, the Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, Executive Officers, distinguished invitees and non-academic staff participated in the conference.
The international conference brought together distinguished scholars, academics, researchers, and participants from Sri Lanka and several other countries to share their research, exchange ideas, and engage in scholarly discussions on Buddhism, Buddhist philosophy, Sinology, Social Sciences, Humanities and related fields.
The conference featured keynote addresses, academic presentations, and research sessions covering a wide range of topics related to the conference theme. The discussions highlighted the relevance of Buddhist philosophy to understanding human diversity, promoting mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, and strengthening the shared values of humanity.
The event provided an important platform for international academic dialogue and collaboration, enabling scholars and researchers to present new perspectives and engage in meaningful scholarly discussions. It also created opportunities to strengthen academic networks and foster future research cooperation among local and international scholars.
The successful organization of the 9th International Buddhist Conference (IBC BUSL–2026) reflects the continued commitment of the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka to promoting academic excellence, research, international collaboration, and the advancement of Buddhist studies.
