A department built around language as a bridge to knowledge and culture.
The Department of Languages was established within the Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies at the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka. From its inception, the Department has contributed to strengthening the linguistic, intellectual and communicative capacities of students.
Language is more than a medium of communication. It provides access to knowledge, literature, philosophy, cultural traditions and global engagement. The Department therefore combines degree-level study with practical language development.
Current academic provision includes degree study in Sanskrit, Sinhala and English, the Compulsory English programme, certificate courses in Tamil, Chinese and Japanese, and advanced certificate pathways in those three languages.
What shapes our work.
