A R De Silva

A R De Silva is an Instructor in English in the Department of Languages at the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and is attached to the English Language Teaching Unit. His academic background is centred on English language teaching, linguistics, education and curriculum development. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and English Language Teaching from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Master of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Kelaniya, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Colombo. He is also reading for a Master of Education at the University of Colombo and a Postgraduate Diploma in English at the University of Peradeniya.

At the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka, he has contributed to compulsory English teaching, examination work, induction programmes, student language-development activities and English-language outreach. His academic service has included paper setting and examining for compulsory English courses, coordinating English programmes for newly admitted student monks, coordinating the English Speech Club, organizing an online lecture series in English, coordinating a field study tour for students reading English, and serving as a resource person for Pirivena students. His scholarly interests include teaching English as a Second Language and for Specific Purposes, curriculum and syllabus design in ELT, language teaching through literature, learner-centred pedagogy, and the teaching of American and African literature. His research also includes work on ethnographic research in education.
