Launching Ceremony of Book Donation Campaign
Bhiksu University Launches Book Donation Campaign in Support of Quality Education.
As a part of the Action Plan 2025, aligned with the University Strategic Plan’s Objective 5: Encouraging Community Participation and Service Expansion, the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka has initiated the Book Donation Campaign for Underserved Pirivena and School Libraries. This initiative, led by Dr. SK Illangarathne, Librarian of the University, reflects his vision for fostering community engagement and enhancing educational access in the region.
The campaign involves collecting donated books through “Book Tills” (පොත් කැට) within the university premises. The collected books will be donated to underserved Pirivena and school libraries in the region, as outlined.
Proposed Locations for Book Tills:
- In front of the Senate Building
- In front of the Library
- In front of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies
- In front of the Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies
The campaign also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, contributing to Targets 4.1 and 4.5, which focus on ensuring equitable access to quality education and reducing disparities. By providing books to underserved libraries, the university aims to bridge resource gaps, foster learning, and empower communities.
The official launch of the campaign took place on 19th December 2024, at the Library, led by Senior Professor Ven. Kanattegoda Saddharatana Anunayaka Thera, Vice Chancellor of Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka, and Ven. Demunnawe Upali, Ven. Polonnaruwe Kashyapa . Mr. YK Tissa Bandara, Senior Assistant Librarian marked the occasion by donating books.
This program not only strengthens educational opportunities but also promotes community participation, a core element of the university’s strategic objectives. The university invites everyone to contribute books to the Book Tills and join hands in supporting quality education, while actively contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Together, let’s create a brighter future for students and libraries in need!
