The Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka<\/strong> is a prestigious higher education institution located in the serene valley of Malwathu-oya<\/strong>, near the sacred city of Anuradhapura<\/strong>. It holds the unique distinction of being the only university in Asia dedicated exclusively to Buddhist monks<\/strong>.<\/p>

The University was established with the primary objective of providing quality education grounded in the Theravada Pali Canon<\/strong>, nurturing both academic excellence and spiritual development.<\/p>

At the heart of the University is the Department of Buddhist and Pali Studies<\/strong>, which plays a vital role in fulfilling the University\u2019s mission under the University Act. The department offers four main areas of study for undergraduate student monks in both Sinhala and English mediums<\/strong>:<\/p>

  • Tripitaka Studies<\/p><\/li>

  • Buddhist Philosophy<\/p><\/li>

  • Pali Language<\/p><\/li>

  • Buddhist Civilization<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

    In addition, Buddhist Philosophy is a compulsory subject<\/strong> for all undergraduate students, ensuring a strong foundation in Buddhist thought and ethical understanding.<\/p>

    The Department is supported by a highly qualified academic staff, including professors and senior lecturers who hold PhDs and other advanced academic qualifications<\/strong>. Their scholarship and dedication ensure a learning experience that is both intellectually rigorous and spiritually enriching.<\/p>

    Our foremost goal is to develop the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka into a globally recognized center of Buddhist learning<\/strong>. By fostering an environment of discipline, inquiry, and reflection, we aim to produce learned monks who will contribute meaningfully to the preservation and dissemination of Buddhist teachings<\/strong> worldwide.<\/p>
